INSCAPE 2019, Exhibited at Tate Britain History Reverberates: Portraits of Identity (2025) curated by Ese Onojeruo

INSCAPE (2019) is a film that examines the relationship between internal states and external environments. Drawing on the concept of inscape—the unique inner nature of a person or place—the work explores how emotional and psychological landscapes are shaped by physical space, and how these inner experiences manifest externally. Structured around three phases—unwind, reset, and recharge—the film follows a cyclical narrative of release and renewal. Through movement and spatial interaction, the work visualises processes of transformation and reconnection.

Inscape engages with themes of Black futurity, proposing alternative visions of environment, identity, and community that move beyond Eurocentric frameworks. Blending landscape, performance, and atmosphere, the film investigates how space—both real and imagined—can serve as a site for memory, identity, and future-oriented thinking. Inscape has been exhibited in galleries across Australia and the United Kingdom, including in Tate Britain’s History Reverberates: Portraits of Identity (2025), curated by Ese Onojeruo and has been feature in The Guardian (Australia, 2020) and Vogue Italia (Print and digital Europe, 2022).
