INSCAPE 2019 | WATCH

INSCAPE (2019) examines the relationship between internal states and external environments. Drawing on the concept of inscape, the unique inner nature of a person or place, the film explores how emotional and psychological landscapes are shaped by space and how inner experiences manifest externally. Structured around three phases, it follows a cyclical narrative of release and renewal. Through movement and spatial interaction, INSCAPE visualises processes of transformation and reconnection. The film engages with Black futurity, proposing alternative visions of environment, identity and community beyond Eurocentric frameworks. Blending landscape, performance and atmosphere, it frames space, both real and imagined, as a site for memory and future-oriented thinking.

INSCAPE has been exhibited in galleries across Australia and the United Kingdom, including Tate Britain’s History Reverberates: Portraits of Identity (2025), curated by Ese Onojeruo. It has been featured in The Guardian (Australia, 2020) and Vogue Italia (print and digital Europe, 2022).

Created on Dja Dja Wurrung country. Directed by Lilah Benetti, featuring Akosia Sabet, with cinematography by Lilah Benetti and Kanya Khieo-on.
