I myself ‘am the sun site specific projection.

I myself 'am the sun is a short film and site-specific projection work that explores Black Queer autonomy through a focus on the body as a site of self-determination and reflection. Developed for large-scale public installation, the work engages with the relationship between physical presence and metaphysical significance, drawing attention to the role of personal agency in processes of healing and identity formation.

The project draws its title from a phrase by Senegalese filmmaker Ousmane Sembène, serving as both a conceptual anchor and a framework for considering the intersections of Blackness, Queerness, and visibility. Rather than centring spectacle, the film emphasises small, embodied gestures as meaningful acts—foregrounding moments often overlooked in dominant narratives.

By positioning the body as both subject and medium, I myself 'am the sun considers the tension between external recognition and internal affirmation, inviting reflection on how ordinary moments can become monuments of personal and political significance. The work has been exhibited at Federation Square’s Big Screen and as part of the Gertrude Street Projection Festival with the Centre for Projection Art.
