More Like A River 2021
More Like A River is a short film that reflects on the emotional realities of personal change. Developed in 2020, the work responds to the political climate surrounding the Black Lives Matter movement and explores how growth, grief, and self-redefinition unfold over time.
Working with visual restraint and a meditative pace, the film examines the difficulty of maintaining softness and clarity during periods of upheaval. It uses elemental imagery to suggest a kind of quiet resistance—where motion and stillness coexist.
More Like A River has been exhibited across Naarm, including presentations at Museums Victoria, James Makin Gallery and the Centre for Projection Art. In 2022, it received the Wyndham Art Prize. A still from the film is held in the Villa Lena Private Collection in Tuscany, Italy.
Directed by Lilah Benetti (@easylilah), starring Pookie (@therealpookie), with cinematography by Sam Biddle (@biddle.biddle).
