SOF’ PORTAL MAP mima Summer Commission Lake Macquarie 2025/26

SOF’ PORTAL (for a Listening Body) transforms the MAP mima Cube into a 360-degree environment of light and sound. The installation offers a quiet space to pause, breathe and allow thoughts to move outward into the room.

Shaped with sensory accessibility in mind, shifting colour, low tones, wind and water form the ambient structure of the work. For those with connections across oceans, the portal creates a moment to direct intentions toward people and places in this world and beyond.

The work was created across Yuwibara, Boon Wurrung and Dja Dja Wurrung Country and is presented on Awabakal Country. These lands hold longstanding relationships to place, ritual and spirit for the communities who continue to care for them.

This work was created with sound design by Reihara, cinematography by Abdul Yusuf and performance by Maxine Ellah.
